565th curric1

Students in 5th Grade will be involved in many different learning activities throughout the academic school year.  They will learn about the seven Sacraments and the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching in Religion.  In Science, students will learn about careers in science and engineering.  Social Studies will focus on teaching about the United States.  Students will read many books and short stories, as well as new articles and poetry, in order to utilize reading skills and strategies for comprehension.  Shurley language will assist them writing essays.  In Math, students will continue studying computation and nmber theory, while adding in Algebra readiness.  Lastly, they will practice cursive handwriting.

In addition to the classroom subjects, students will attend Mass twice each week, participate in classroom and school-wide service projects, attend an All Saints Day Carnival in November, and celebrate Catholic Schools Week in January.  At the end of the school year, each 5th Grade student will “shadow” a junior high student for 2-3 class periods, giving them a chance to experience life in the junior high.  They will have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have afterwards to a panel of junior high students and teachers.
