Physical Education Program

PE 1Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School utilizes a fully equipped gymnasium and outdoor playground for encouraging outstanding physical development of our students.  Students are encouraged to develop skills, habits and interests which will enable them to continue a healthy and physically active lifestyle.

Kindergarten through third grade learns coordination through jump roping, skipping, running, hopping, and a variety of other skills. As students mature, ball handling skills such as catching, throwing, bouncing and kicking are promoted through drills and games such as soccer, volleyball, floor hockey, basketball, etc.

Each year, the entire student body participates in the Jump Rope for Heart event sponsored by the American Heart Association.  Students are encouraged to participate during classes in energetic, fun and healthy activities to promote lifelong physical fitness. Our Physical Education Program, taught by Mr. Matt Crain infuses social responsibility throughout all of its activities.  Team building activities designed to help groups or classs develop effective communication and problem-solving skills are an important part of our program.  Character education concepts, such as respect, honesty and responsibility are practiced in the physical activity setting.
